Don’t Look Up Review
⬆️ NON SPOILER REVIEW OF
DON'T LOOK UP BY MARLON MCCAULSKY
As someone that enjoys political satire, this film seems right up my alley. A couple of scientists discovered that a meteor the size of Texas is going to hit Earth and end humanity. They try and warm the world (the president/media) but nobody is talking them seriously.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out this is a metaphor for what's been happening in the world for the last two years.
Written, produced, and directed by Adam McKay. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep, Supporting cast include Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, and Kid Cudi.
I gotta say, I really dislike this film. This was just bad writing in my opinion. The jokes weren't funny and it felt like a long boring SNL skit. Yes this is satire but I couldn't take the characters serious enough, other than DiCaprio who was playing his character straight forward as a scientist. This film tried to balance comedy and drama and wasn't very good at either. The actors did the best with what they were given but it wasn't good. I see what the director was trying to do but it didn't work for me.
‘Don’t Look Up’ is a chilling, era-defining and hard-hitting political satire with metaphors and parodies with more misses than hits. It tries to serves as a massive shock to the system that lacks nuance and induces eye-rolling. I literally watched the first hour of this film and turned it off and watch the Harry Potter reunion special on HBO Max, and that was ten times better.
This film goes down as smoothly as unseasoned chicken. I do not recommend watching this film.
